Please, don't let him be the second lead
I... Feel like this was all so unnecessary? I truly don't see why they couldn't just show the letter as proof that a foreign diplomat was plotting to assassinate a noblewoman? They claimed if they did, Ariadne's honor would be tainted but I counter that it wouldn't??? Use some selective truth to make it so Alphonso happened upon the duke attacking her and saved her before anything could happen without realizing who it was. Anyone who says different just ask in public if they think the Crown Prince is lying???? And to be honest even if her honor was tainted how much does that really matter if Alphonso marries her???? Is shielding Ariadne from petty rumors that can be quashed with imperial authority really worth letting the queen die and turning a faithful knight into a bitter enemy???? From the prologue Ari seemed like a cunning and intelligent woman (if desperate for Cesare's love). But now we're 93 chapters in and whenever Alphonso is around, her brain turns to cotton candy fluff. Being in love does not mean losing the ability to think for yourself. For someone who is supposed to be living by a philosophy based on repaying both kindness and harm in equal measure she's barely done anything to anyone. She got rid of Lucretia sure but that was half done in self defense. Now it feels wrong that Alphonso is pledging his love for her and she's essentially rejecting him. After his mother died for her. He is not Cesare. He would rather be happy with the woman he loves and he's heartbroken after helplessly listening to his mother's murder. So he turns to Ariadne for solace and to promise a future together where they can both be happy and what does she do? She firmly places herself beneath him and vows to put him on the throne, essentially slapping him in the face and saying "what you want doesn't matter, I won't marry you and you will be king".These last couple of chapters have left such a horrid taste in my mouth I'm probably gonna drop the series
